Hochul announces she handpicked Blake Gendebien to run for Congress, will use him to install Hakeem Jeffries as speaker

Edinburg, NY – 18 September 2026 – Blake Gendebien is lying to voters in NY-21 by refusing to admit he will support Hakeem Jeffries for Speaker, and denying extensive campaign ties to Kathy Hochul.

Kathy Hochul on NY1's "Inside City Hall" announced this week that she has spent the past two years working with Hakeem Jeffries to hand-select New York Democrats to run for Congress, including Blake Gendebien.

While Kathy Hochul admits she and Hakeem Jeffries control Blake Gendebien, Gendebien refuses to even publicly admit supporting them, much less that he will do their bidding in Congress. Gendebien is running a campaign of outright deceit and dishonesty

“I've created a coordinated campaign to work with Hakeem Jeffries to identify the targeted races in New York,” Hochul said. “I think Blake Gendebien can win in the North Country.” She added that New York “will be the state that sends Hakeem Jeffries to the Speaker's office.”

Every dollar and field office Hochul is using to support Gendebien's campaign exists to make Jeffries Speaker of the House, and to push her failed policies at the federal level, by her own admission.

A national Civiqs poll released September 2nd put Jeffries’s favorability at just 24%, with 56% of voters holding an unfavorable view of him. Voters do not want Hakeem Jeffries running the House, and Hochul is using Blake Gendebien to install him anyway.

According to Kathy Hochul, a vote for Blake Gendebien is a vote for Hakeem Jeffries to be speaker, and for Kathy Hochul’s destructive policies to be pushed in Congress.
